Bhubaneswar: Following the allegations that many English medium public schools in the State are running without the No Objection Certificate (NOC), the Directorate of Secondary Education has issued a notification asking parents not to enroll their children in such schools.
As per the reports, the directorate has advised parents to first examine whether the school they are interested to choose is mentioned in the list put out by the State government.
While only one school has received NOC in each of the three districts Kendrapara, Sonepur and Dhenkanal, as many as 48 schools have received the government approval in Khurda out of the total 350 public schools that are running in the district.
Meanwhile, the parents’ association have welcomed the government’s move.
“Details of the schools which have not got recognition should be advertised and the government must create awareness. Besides, heavy penalty should be imposed on schools running without permission,” said Basudeb Bhatt, chairman of the All Odisha Parents’ Association.
Experts are of the opinion that the government’s role should not be restricted only to notification. Concrete action should be taken against schools running without recognition so that they would be discouraged from taking admission of students.
“After disclosure of the list, the government should take steps to take action against the schools running without NOC. They should be pressurised to fulfil the required criteria so that they can get the NOC,” educationist Pritish Acharya said.
