Bhubaneswar: In the aftermath of Cyclone Fani that majorly affected coastal parts of Odisha, a group of Sikh volunteers from an international NGO, Khalsa Aid International, extended their service to the cyclone-affected residents.
The volunteers of the NGO are serving langar (community kitchen) food to the cyclone-hit people in Bhubaneswar with the help of Gurudwara Singh Sabha since Saturday. The organisation is offering food twice a day- lunch and dinner.
The Khalsa Aid has also started serving food to the cyclone victims in Puri from Tuesday with the help of district administration. They are serving food and drinking water to around 5,000 people in Puri everyday.
“We have set our camp near Badadanda in Puri from where we are distributing food. We will cook food for 5,000 people twice daily. We will go to distribute food to the places as per the direction of the authority concerned. We are here for the aid of the people and will serve food to the public where there is a need,” said a member of Gurudwara Singh Sabha.
“We are here from the second day post cyclone Fani and have discussed with the Collector for providing food in Puri. As per the orders of the Collector, we are going to various places and serving the people. We will also go to Chilika and Konark for assessment and will take steps to help the affected people,” said a member of Khalsa Aid.
Khalsa Aid is a UK based NGO which provides aid to the victims of natural disasters or conflicts in the world.
