Bhubaneswar: Talent can take you to the doorsteps of success, but it's only hard work that catapults you over the threshold to achieve it.
For Birendra Tripathy, securing 67th rank in Odisha Civil Services Examination, 2018, was nothing less than a dream come true. For his mother, three sisters, father, who cooks at marriage parties and uncle who sells snacks on the roadside in Bhubaneswar, the news of Birendra passing the OAS examination was a ray of hope that will lift them out of their misery.
As per reports, Birendra's family who migrated to the capital city from Banki, earn their living from selling street food. Birendra's uncle, Surendranath Tripathy operates the street food stall at Rental Colony. When OTV spoke to Birendra, he never hesitated to give all the credit of his success to his uncle Surendranath, who guided him towards success.
Speaking to OTV, Surendranath said, "I thank all the teachers and well-wishers both here and in Banki whose blessings have helped Birendra achieve success. I personally guided him all through this journey. I am proud that he will be an OAS officer now."
"When Birendra passed from BJB college with a score of 81%, he wanted to be a doctor. To help materialise his dream, I even admitted him in a coaching institute. But I could only afford a single year's admission fee charged by the coaching centre. I still rue the fact that the lad could have been a doctor had I managed to give him another year of medical coaching," added Surendranath.
Not only his family but the entire market in Rental Colony was happy after Birendra's success. The Rental Colony market committee secretary, Malay Kumar Tarai said, "The Tripathis have been here for more than 28 years. Not only in studies, Birendra is a good sportsman too. I always knew that he will succeed in life."
The one-bedroom rented asbestos house that the family shares, tells the tale of Birendra's struggle. A smiling Birendra said, "I had my Post Graduate examination last year too, which I passed with a good score. I could have secured a better rank than this if it weren't for two different examinations at the same time."
Like others, Birendra's mother Basanti Tripathi was quite happy after receiving the news of his son's achievement. Wiping the tears of joy rolling down her cheeks, Basanti said, "We have faced many hardships in our lives, but Birendra never saw them as hindrances. His aim was to be an OAS officer and by God's grace he is one now."
