Bhubaneswar: Despite the Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) that was developed over northwest Odisha on August 22 is now being stationed over Chhattisgarh and adjoining East MP , there seems no let up in rainfall activities in the State on Sunday.
IMD's customised rainfall predictions for today shows the State is going to receive 121 per cent more rainfall than the average normal rainfall recorded over the years on this day (August 25).
What looks more significant is, the State will witness another spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 30 to September 4 owing to a LOPAR that is developing over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha coasts.
As per the IMD's real time rainfall data, Odisha till 2PM on Sunday has recorded 182 mm rainfall against the observed 6.8 mm average normal rainfall over the years on August 25.
IMD data shows Titlagarh recording the highest rainfall of 63 mm today. It is followed by Keonjhargarh (33 mm) and Balasore (29 mm).
Though it has been raining in the Capital city since morning, the recorded rainfall amount is measured at mere 3 mm. Cuttack has recorded 4 mm rainfall today.
A glance at the data shows Odisha has received the highest rainfall this monsoon season in the month of August.
Satellite reports by IMD and Skymet indicate heavy rain in places like Aska (Ganjam), Lakhmara (Bargarh) and Jaleswar (Balasore) since 2 PM today.
The Skymet has also predicted lightning activities at some places in Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Sonepur and Rourkela.
As per satellite reports and weather models, rainfall activities in the State will abate from tomorrow. The rainfall, however, will return to Odisha from August 30 and may continue till September 4. Heavy rains are predicted for southern interior and coastal Odisha on August 30, and again on September 3 & 4.
