Cuttack/Deogarh: At a time when attempts are being made by the Transport department to put a check on rising incidents of road mishaps by ensuring people strictly follow traffic rules, at least four persons were killed in separate road accidents in the last 12 hours in Odisha.
Two women were killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle near Ratapata under Baramba police limits in Cuttack district on Sunday. As per reports, the women were returning after taking a bath in nearby nullah in the village when the vehicle rammed them. The duo reportedly died on the spot.
Following the incident, locals blocked Cuttack-Narasinghpur road demanding compensation for the families of the deceased.
Till last reports came in, police had reached the spot and held discussions with the agitators to bring the situation under control.
In another such road mishap, a biker was killed after being hit by a vehicle near Kantala village in Deogarh district on Saturday.
Ramakant Rout of the village was on his way to a nearby chhak when an unknown vehicle hit him from behind. Rout lost control following the collision and reportedly rammed into a pedestrian, Kandarpa Sahu.
Both Rout and Sahu were rushed to Deogarh hospital. However, Rout was declared brought dead by doctors and later Sahu also succumbed to injuries while he was being shifted to Burla hospital.
