Puri: A forest official team was attacked at Bilipada village under Satyabadi police limits of the district today while conducting raids on a sawmill that was operating illegally in the area since a long time.
Acting on a tip off on the illegal business, a team of forest department officials raided the spot at Bilipada village when the owner of sawmill and some others were also present at the spot.
During the raid the owner and the locals brutally assaulted the forest officials injuring two of them and later fled the spot.
Critically injured, the officials were rushed to Puri district headquarters hospital (DHH) where they are undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered against the accused involved in the attack at Satyabadi police station following which police have launched a probe to nab the culprit.
