Bhubaneswar: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) KB Singh and ADG (CB) BK Sharma are scheduled to attend the three-day All India Conference of Directors General/Inspectors General of Police beginning from today at Kutch in Gujarat.
Government sources said, apart from DGPs and IGs of all the States and Union Territories, heads of NIA, CBI, IB, NCB and police training academies would attend the event. DGs and IGs of para-military forces such as BSF, CRPF and CISF will also take part in the conference.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who advocated the creation of a 'SMART' police force last year, are likely to address the meeting.
Sources added that measures at counter-radicalisation of Indian youths joining Islamic State (IS), monitoring terror-related activities on the social networking sites, better coordination between Central and State agencies and choking terror funds would be the focus areas of the conference.
The meeting will see a presentation from the Intelligence Bureau on the success of some of its covert cyber operations through which many of these youths in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala were identified and stopped from joining IS.
Central agencies like IB, NIA, CBI, NCB and ED will also be sharing the steps being taken in coordination with international agencies to prevent a Paris-like terror strike.
Media reports said a no-fly zone will be imposed around Rann of Kutch and nearby areas from December 18 as Modi is expected to attend the annual meet in his home state Gujarat. The PM is likely to stay for three days at the makeshift tents in Rann of Kutch in close proximity to the border with Pakistan.
While a heavy security blanket is being thrown on the ground, no plane will be allowed within a radius of 50 km and additional anti-aircraft guns will be deployed to shoot down any aerial intrusion, reports noted. There will be restrictions on the use of drones as well, they said.
