Five of a family injured in lightning strike in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: Five members of a family including three minors sustained grievous injuries after being struck by lightning at Baghamunda village under Parjang police limits in Dhenkanal district on Thursday evening.

The injured Tarun Kerei (8), Lakshman Kerei (8), Gauranga Kerei (15), Surati Kerei (30) and Chiru Kerei (45) of the family have been admitted to Kamakhyanagar Hospital for treatment.

As per reports, all the five were inside their house when lightning struck them at around 6 pm. Hearing their screams, some neighbours rushed to their house and called the fire brigade. 108 ambulance and fire tenders reached the spot and rescued all the five members of the family.

Earlier in the day, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) had issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for six districts including Dhenkanal till 10.30 PM on Thursday.
