Paradip: A group of local fishermen caught three rare fish locally called ‘Panikua’ from sea near Paradip coast in Odisha on Friday. While one fish weighed more than 160 kg, the other two weighed 60 kg and 40 kg, respectively.
Later, the fishermen sold the fish to a trader from Sandhakud.
According to the fishermen, the fish with pointed mouth are usually found in deep sea. Though the price of the fish is not so high, such species are not found in the coastal area.
“This fish usually stays at a depth of 300 to 400 metres in the sea. We locally call it Panikua or Panikau. The weight of one of the fish was 160 kg," said TV Ramana, a fish trader.
According to Ramana, people in Kerala like this fish very much and it is sold at a price between Rs 100 to Rs 150 per kg.
