Dhenkanal: Wild fires broke out and spread into Megha reserve forest on the outskirts of Dhenkanal on Friday night.

Affecting around 100 acres of forest land, the wild fires have killed many jungle animals and destroyed a huge number of old sagwan and sal trees in the jungle. Even the loss of animal life is feared in the fire break-out.

When fire started in the jungle, it frightened the entire neighborhood. Though attempts have been made to contact the Department of Forest, the reasons of fire break-out are not yet known.

Last night after the Department of Forest took charge, the spread of fire was somewhat controlled. Still it is feared that fire may spread out to the Kunjkant area of the reserve forest, behind which there is a massive presence of sagwan and sal trees.
