Kandhamal: A female Maoist was killed today in an encounter by security forces in a jungle near Tumudibandha in Kandhamal district.
A group of Maoists, which had set up a camp in the jungle, were tracked down by the forces on Wednesday following which the security personnel entered the jungle and had a brief exchange of fire with the red rebels.
In the lengthy exchange of fire, a female Maoist was killed on the spot. Besides, the forces seized four guns, there grenades and several other Maoist articles.
"A female Maoist was killed in the encounter today. Weapons including guns, grenades and other articles were also seized during the search. We have deployed Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) for combing operation in the area," informed ADG (Operations), R P Koche.
