Bargarh: Police have launched an investigation into alleged irregularities in supply of rice after about 200 bags of rice were seized while they were being transported to West Bengal.
According to sources, 38 truckloads of rice were sent from the godown of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) at Kenpalli in Bargarh district to the goods shed at Bargarh Railway Station for loading onto rakes. During loading of the rice into the wagons, some workers found that around 200 bags from a particular truck were packed with broken rice.
The workers then contacted the CWC superintendent, Direndra Kumar Biswal who immediately rushed to the spot. The FCI quality control team checked the rice and subsequently the stock was seized. Biswal then lodged a complaint against the transport contractor at Sadar Police Station, informed sources.

“A total of 38 truckloads of rice were sent to Bargarh goods shed for loading. The rice in one of the trucks was found to be substandard. As per the protocol, we have lodged a complaint,” Biswal said.
“We had handed over the rice to the transport contractor and have sought clarification in this regard from him,” he added.
On the other hand, transport contractor Sourabh Tuli lodged complaint against the truck driver and its owner.
“Our staff came across the broken rice while unloading the stock onto the wagons. The staff then held discussions with the FCI officials and the fraud came to fore. I have lodged a complaint against the truck driver and the owner in connection with the fraud,” Tuli said.

“Two separate complaints have been lodged. Who are involved in the matter will be ascertained after a detailed investigation,” said Sadar PS in-charge, Dilip Behera.
