Cuttack: A 75-year-old woman patient, who had suffered critical injuries after a ceiling fan fallen on her, succumbed to the injuries on Monday.
The patient Parvati Das hailing from Jajpur district breathed her last late on Monday night, informed her family members.
According to sources, the septuagenarian woman was brought to the hospital after she sustained burn injuries. She was undergoing treatment in the surgery ward when a ceiling fan had snapped and fell on her on March 8.
The woman was shifted to the trauma care intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital after the mishap.
Though falling of fan on patient at SCB is not uncommon, death due to the incident is a new thing.

Earlier, the family members of the woman patient had lodged three complaints in this regard. Initially, they lodged a complaint with the superintendent of SCB and later with the hospital outpost. Besides, they had also moved the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) demanding a probe into the matter.
Prasant Das, a relative of the deceased said, "She (the patient) had fallen unconscious after the ceiling fan fell on her. She succumbed at 10 PM last night. We had brought her to the the hospital to cure the burn injuries she had suffered, but now we are taking home her dead body. The hospital authorities are responsible for her death."
Speaking on the incident, SCB emergency officer Bhubanananda Maharana said, "The head of the surgery ward is probe the matter and will submit report soon. Besides, the post-mortem of the body will be conducted and action will be taken accordingly on the basis of the both reports."
