Cuttack: We know you are battling financial constraints, there is an imminent threat to your life and performing a puja will keep all dangers at bay. Several people in Cuttack fell prey to such tricks of a fake Godman who has reportedly looted crores of rupees from them.
The matter came to the fore when locals of Hazari lane under Purighat Police limits overpowered the fake Baba while he was absconding after looting gold ornaments and cash from several persons.
Sources said the fraudster who hails from Bidanasi area used to first extract money on the pretext of performing some puja and later decamped with gold ornaments after winning their trust.
“After seeing Kundali, the Baba told me that there is threat to the lives of my husband and son. Without thinking much, we paid him Rs 7,000 for a puja. The baba again visited our house after a few days, gave us a tabeez (amulet) and took gold chain and ring,” said a victim.
Meanwhile, Purighat Police has detained the accused based on a complaint filed by the local residents. Further investigation in this connection is underway.
