Expectant Mother Dies After Being Administered Anaesthesia Injection In Phulbani Hospital

Phulbani: A pregnant woman died after being allegedly administered anaesthesia injection at the Phulbani hospital on Friday. As per reports, the woman identified as wife of one Bijaya Naik of Budulipada under G. Udayagiri police limits in Kandhamal district was admitted to the hospital on August 27.

Yesterday when she went into labour, doctors gave her anaesthesia injection to conduct a C-section operation. But she died at the operation theatre within a few minutes after being administered the injection.

“When my wife complained of labour pain, doctors shifted her to the operation theatre. They told us that my wife died after the anaesthesia injection was given to her prior to the operation,” said Naik.

Clarifying on the cause behind the woman’s death, the Additional District Medical Officer (ADMO) of Phulbani hospital, Manoranjan Rout said the woman suffered from the cardiac arrest leading to her death in the operation theatre.
