Malkangiri: Absence of motorable roads in the remote areas continues to affect the people, depriving them of timely healthcare services in the State. Yet another incident has come to fore from Malkangiri district where a pregnant woman was carried in a sling on Friday.
According to reports, one Sani Peda, wife of Bisambar Peda of Bandhaguda village under Mathili block in the district complained of labour pain early morning today. Following this, her family members decided to take her to nearby Mathili community health centre (CHC).
The family members informed that soon after a call was made the local ASHA worker for ambulance services, a 108 ambulance arrived but it halted some three kilometers away from their house due to absence of proper road to the village.
As Sani's condition continued to deteriorate, the family with the help of some villagers carried her in a sling for 3 kms where the ambulance was stationed.
Later, Sani was brought to Mathili community health centre (CHC) in the ambulance while her condition was stated to be stable.
A week ago, another woman suffering from high fever was carried in a sling for nearly 4 kilometers to reach an ambulance at Goiguda village in Bondaghati area of Malkangiri district.
