Bhubaneswar: Former Deputy Vice President of a coal transport company, Rakesh Chopra was arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch for swindling funds worth Rs 30 cr, informed DIG Sanjay Kumar today.

Chopra who was working as the Vice President of Paradip-based Karam Chand Thapar and Brothers Ltd was apprehended by the Crime Branch from Bhubaneswar Airport while travelling to Delhi. According to Crime Branch sources, Chopra forged an advice slip of the company and siphoned off the said amount, which he allegedly spent on a World tour and investments in various businesses.

It is to be noted that a case was lodged against the errant official of the company at the Paradip Police Station and was subsequently getting investigated by the Crime Branch. Crime Branch investigation is currently on to nab the others involved in this irregularity, said Kumar.
