Berhampur: A 37-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant near Jirabadi in Jagannath Prasad forest area of Ganjam district on Tuesday, officials said.
 
The deceased was identified as Karpura Muli of Jirabadi village under Jagannath Pur forest range.
 
Divisional Forest Officer, Ghumusara North KC Mishra said the victim and her father were going to forest while the elephant attacked.
 
While her father escaped, the elephant trampled her.
 
The family members of the victim would be get compensation amounting to Rs 2 lakh after investigation, Mishra said.
 
He said an adult tusker was found roaming in the area for last few months.
 
The animal was moving around 20-km radius of the area.
 
Forest officials are constantly vigil on its movement. They also advised the people not to go near the elephant.
