Berhampur: A tipper lorry driver was beaten to death by a mob after the vehicle run over a youth in Odisha's Ganjam district on Saturday.
The incident was reported from Dengadi Square under Patapur police limits of Ganjam district.
As per initial reports, the tipper laden with soil was on its way from Ramchandrapur when it hit Kanhu Charan Jena (23) of Adapada, killing him on the spot. Another person also sustained critical injuries in the mishap.
Angry over the youth's death, the locals started thrashing the tipper driver. They alleged that the he was drunk and driving the vehicle at a high speed that led to the mishap.
The driver was beaten so badly that he succumbed to his injuries at a health centre at Adapada.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased (who died in the accident) along with locals staged protest at three places demanding compensation. The police reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
