Bhubaneswar: In what indicates a major declining trend, the number of new coronavirus infections reported in a day in Odisha dropped below 650 after several months, taking the State's cumulative tally to 310052 on Tuesday (November 17), as per the I&PR department.
Of the fresh cases, 371 were detected from different quarantine centers, while the remaining 273 are local transmission cases. While new positive cases have been reported from all the districts, no district has witnessed a daily surge of over 100 positives. In the past 24 hours, Khordha district recorded maximum daily cases at 73, followed by Sundargarh (62), and Mayurbhanj (59).
However, the major concern now is the climbing death rate in Odisha. Despite the fact that single-day cases have stood below 1000 over the last few days, 15 positive patients died on Saturday, 17 more succumbed to the virus on Sunday, 16 died on Monday, and 17 more in the last 24 hours, indicating that there has been no fall in the mortality rate.
As per the data shared by the State H&FW department, four patients succumbed to Covid-19 in Sundargarh district while three patients died in Sambalpur. Jagatsinghpur and Subarnapur districts reported two deaths each while Khordha (Bhubaneswar), Bhadrak, Bargarh, Puri, Ganjam, Cuttack districts each saw death of one person, as per the data of the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department
The number of active cases remained below 10000-mark for the fourth consecutive day. There are 9280 active Covid cases in the State which comprises nearly 3 percent of the total caseload, the data reveals. On the other hand, the total recoveries have surged to 299159 pushing the State's cure rate to as high as 96.48 percent. The overall COVID-19 case fatality rate stands at 0.5 percent in Odisha.
A total of 36212 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 5330938.
