Doctor faints while operating patient in Odisha

Balasore: A doctor fainted while conducting a surgery inside the operation theatre (OT) of Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) today. Soon after, he was admitted to the ICU of the hospital for treatment.

Sources said doctor Girija Das of Gynaecology Department of the hospital lost consciousness while conducting an operation at around 2.30 PM today. Nurses and other staff present in the OT immediately rushed him to the ICU. In the meantime, another doctor of the hospital was pressed into service to operate the patient.

Doctors at the hospital said Das fainted due to a sudden rise in his blood pressure owing to extreme heat. He was later discharged after treatment.

"The room temperature was high since the air conditioning system inside the OT was not functioning. The heat might have led to a sudden rise in his blood pressure," said sources.

Despite several attempts, hospital authorities were not available to comment on the matter.
