Bhubaneswar: Tension continues to ferment among students of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) over unprecedented delay in the conduct of final semester examination this academic year.
As per reports, the students who had enrolled in the professional courses like M.Pharma and MBA besides B.Tech, are yet to get their certificates owing to non-completion of the final semester examinations.
A group of students of the varsity took to streets over the matter and alleged that without a certificate they are neither able to apply for any kind of jobs nor enroll for higher studies.
Notably, BPUT had conducted online examinations for Bachelor in Engineering, Planning, Architecture and Masters in Science in Mathematical Computing, Applied Chemistry and Applied Physics at its 110 constituent and affiliated colleges in July and August this year.
Similarly, examination for MBA and BPharma courses was completed on 20 August 2020, but there were some students who could not appear for the examinations.
However, the Skill Development Department had assured the remaining students to provide them with another opportunity to appear in the same examination. But the delay in the declaration of date has made the students restless.
A protesting student Pawan Kumar Swain said that students are losing jobs and seats in colleges for higher studies because of this delay. There are some students who have reserved seats in colleges by paying money. But without a certificate from BPUT, their money is as good as gone. Even the companies that recruited freshers from the campus have now issued ultimatum to selected candidates to provide a completion certificate without which they will be forced to nullify their appointment,” he said.
“We have been trying to contact the VC of the University but could not get any assurance from him. We will intensify the stir if immediate steps are not taken in this connection," Swain said.
