Bhawanipatna: Panic continued to grip Baladhiamala village in Kalahandi district as 39 people have been admitted to different hospitals after they complained of diarrhoea and dehydration in the past one week.
As per reports, the patients were initially rushed to the village Community Health Centre. Later four of them were shifted to district headquarters hospital while nine of them have been rushed to Junagarh hospital after their condition worsened. Besides, the rest are undergoing treatment at the village community health centre.
Locals alleged that the disease has spread in the region due to consumption of contaminated water.
“Earlier we were drinking the supply water but it was detected contaminated. Therefore, the administration stopped the supply water provision to the village," said a local Bishnu Priya.
"Currently, we are drinking river water by adding tablets given to us by the authorities,” said a local Bishnu Priya.
On the other hand, the Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO) informed that the condition of the affected person is stable and steps are being taken to address the issue on priority basis.
“The preliminary examination report revealed that the disease has been spread by bacteria called E. Coli. We have sent water samples to Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department for test. After getting the report further steps will be taken,” said Ashok Das, ADMO.
