Bhubansewar: After a review of security preparedness for ensuing polls on April 10 in police districts under northern and north central ranges, Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Mishra in Sambalpur on Thursday said their prime objective was to provide security to voters and contesting candidates.
"As many as 50 companies of additional security forces will join the existing 95 companies of forces in the State for conduct of free and fair elections," Mishra told media persons, adding that once the first phase of elections gets over, the forces will be moved to areas where second phase poll will be held on April 17.
The police administration has already requested the Central Government and the Election Commission to provide three choppers during the first phase poll, the DGP added.
"There is no need for choppers in the second phase poll," informed Mishra.
He said police have already started holding discussion with their counterparts in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand states to guard the bordering areas.
For the first time, flying squad and static surveillance squads will have an eye on misuse of money, power or liquor during polls, he added.
