Sundergarh: Despite Odisha government's claim of taking adequate measures to keep dengue in check, the disease continues to spread its tentacles across several parts of the State. As many as 18 people have been tested positive for dengue in Sundergarh and Gajapati districts.
Out of the 16 persons whose blood samples were collected in Sundergarh, 11 persons were tested positive for dengue. While one of them has recuperated completely, nine others are currently undergoing treatment.
However, Chief District Medical Officer, Pankaj Kumar Patel has said that extensive programmes are being conducted to create awareness on prevention of dengue.
Similarly, as many as seven persons diagnosed with dengue in Gajapati district have been admitted to MKCG hospital in Berhampur.
While a medical team visited the village for a health check-up, multiple blood samples were sent for test. In last two months, multiple cases of dengue came to the fore from different areas of the district. Reportedly, hundreds are suffering from fever in Baghasala village.
A local resident, Chandra Sekhar Pradhan said, "The disease is spreading because of stagnant water at many spots in our village. Hundreds of residents are suffering from fever."
Speaking on the issue, Community Health Officer of Gurandi in Gajapati district, Anang Sadan Bhuyan said, "Awareness programmes are being conducted by supervisors so that the villagers will take precautionary measures."
