Dal scam likely to dominate budget session
Bhubaneswar: The budget session in the state legislature which begins on February 14 is all set to be rocky in the wake of large-scale irregularities in the procurement and supply of pulses (dal).
While the Opposition Congress and BJP have chalked out strategies to floor the government on the alleged multi-crore dal scam, the ruling BJD is confident to counter the allegations.
Besides, the saffron party would raise the alleged fake encounter at Paikamal where two persons were killed out of which one person was a BJP worker, as claimed by the party. In addition, the party would bring in the farmers’ suicide issue during the budget session, party sources said.
“The dal scam and Paikamal fake encounter will figure in the budget session,” BJP leader Jaynarayan Mishra said.
On the other hand, Congress said, people could not estimate the loss of exchequer due to coal and mining scam in the state. However, the dal scam has affected people severely and the party would raise the issue in the assembly.
The Opposition Congress would also ask the government about the utilization of funds under eleventh five year plan among other issues.
“The dal scam will definitely be discussed in the assembly and it is bound to generate heat,” Opposition chief whip Prasad Harichandan said.
With Opposition parties fastening their belts to corner the government, the ruling party seems to be unfazed by the preparations in the opposition camp.
The ruling party would rake up the issues like—Centre’s apathy towards the state in disbursing Central assistance towards crop loss due to untimely rain and Kolkata Port Trust limit extension issue.
“The Kolkata Port Trust limit expansion up to Dhamara port is a recent issue. Besides, the centre has always neglected the state,” ruling party chief whip Rabinarayan Pani said.
Notably, Centre declared assistance to Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh without sending central teams whereas Orissa still awaits assistance despite central team admitting to the fact that the state incurred huge crop loss due to untimely rain.
It may be recalled that coal scam dominated the monsoon session of the state assembly; the Vedanta University land deal issue marred the winter session and now the ruling BJD is likely to confront the dal scam in the forthcoming budget session.
