Berhampur/Sonepur: Continuing its tirade against the corrupt officials in the State, the Odisha Vigilance on Thursday raided the houses and offices two government officials- an assistant executive engineer engaged in Rayagada Works Division and a panchayat executive office (PEO) of Sonepur- in connection with accumulation of disproportionate assets.
The officials have been identified as Uddhab Padhi, assistant engineer in Rayagada(R&B) Division-II at Gunupur and Durjyodhan Meher, PEO of Cherupali gram panchayat under Dunguripali block in Sonepur.
Acting on a tipoff, five teams of the anti-graft officials conducted surprise raids at Padhi's houses in Berhampur and Dharakote of Ganjam, Puri and his quarters and office at Gunupur in Rayagada district.
Sources said, the Vigilance sleuths have recovered cash, relevant documents and bank account passbooks during the raids. However, the exact amount of Padhi's disproportionate assets will be known after the searches are over.
On the other hand, Vigilance sleuths of Bolangir, Sambalpur and Sonepur divisions simultaneously raided the house of Durjyodhan Meher, the PEO of Cherupali gram panchayat early morning on Thursday.
The raids are being conducted under the supervision of Vigilance SP Sarah Sharma, said reports.
The searches are being conducted at Meher's residential house at Manikeswari in Sonepur town and office at Cherupali. Till the last report was filed, the exact movable and immovable assets unearthed will be known after the raids are complete.
"The searches are being conducted on the strength of search warrant issued by Special Vigilance Court, Bolangir. We have recovered passbooks of bank accounts, insurance policies and other document so far. The total assets will be known after the raids are over," informed Dasarathi Sethy, Samabalpur Vigilance DSP.
