Bhubaneswar: With an objective to transform SCB Medical College and Hospital into a world-class institution, Odisha government on Saturday announced to begin eviction drive for the developmental project from January 27.
Cuttack District Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani today informed that the eviction drive will be launched from Monday and over 300 families likely to be affected will be rehabilitated on the other side of Jobra Bridge. The collector also informed that the matter has been discussed with Cuttack Municipal Corporation authorities.
Just hours before the development, the State government announced a rehabilitation package for persons, families and commercial units to be affected by the mega expansion project in the millennium city of Cuttack.
As per the package approved by the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, land of people will be acquired and compensation will be provided as per Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act 2013. The package will be applicable for those who will lose their houses, shops, unoccupied houses and street vendors.
One time assistance of Rs 50,000 will be provided to people who have constructed houses by encroaching upon government land, Rs 20,000 for street vendors, and Rs 20,000 for shifting of cattle and other livestock.
District Collector will provide an assistance of Rs 1 lakh for relocation of religious institutions and clubs.
Licence will be issued to each family for construction of houses on a temporary basis on land identified by the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) and district administration. The civic body will provide necessary amenities at the specified location. The affected people will be asked to vacate the temporary houses after they are rehabilitated under the affordable housing scheme.
Cooked food will be provided for eight days at the temporary transit houses and necessary transport facilities will be provided by the CMC.
The vendors including fish traders who are registered with CMC will get Rs 1 lakh assistance and they will be rehabilitated in appropriate vending zones on priority basis. The civic body will refund the security deposit made by the evicted vendors.
The government officials and employees, who will vacate official quarters, will be entitled to get house rent and assistance for 12 months or till allotment of new quarters. As per the package, a class IV employee will get an assistance of Rs 5,000 per month, Rs 7,500 for Class III, Rs 10,000 for Class II and Rs 12,500 for Class 1 officials.
