Bhubaneswar: After detecting massive violation of prescribed COVID-19 guidelines, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is gearing up to take criminal action against Blue Wheel Hospital from where 27 COVID-19 positive cases were reported.
Informing about the development, BMC Commissioner, Prem Chandra Chaudhary today said, “We are initiating a criminal case and FIR will be registered against the private hospital as there were violations in COVID-19 protocols.”
BMC Commissioner informed that after detection of a COVID-19 positive case, the hospital authorities had allowed the patient to leave without getting the test reports.
“All such actions amount to negligence and our contact tracing is on. We are maintaining surveillance and all the employees have been kept under home quarantine,” informed Chaudhary.
Apart from this, a massive inspection drive was launched by BMC to check whether other hospitals in Bhubaneswar are following the prescribed COVID-19 guidelines or not, the authorities informed.
“We have found that there are some lapses and a notice will be issued to the hospitals tonight. A special time period will be allowed to such healthcare institutions to rectify and comply with the prescribed protocols of the government. Action will be taken if any further violation comes to our notice," Chaudhary added.
Social distancing in waiting halls, provision of hand sanitizers and training of staff are mandatory for healthcare institutions. The teams will submit a detailed report in connection with violations and appropriate action will be taken against them, BMC officials said.
Meanwhile, 38 new COVID-19 cases were reported from Bhubaneswar in the last 24 hours.
