Bhubaneswar: As many as 210 persons have been tested positive with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours in Odisha. The total number of Covid cases in the State has now risen to 5962 which includes 1815 active cases and 4123 recoveries. At least 17 persons have lost their lives due to the disease so far, a data released by the State I&PR Department said.
Out of the total 282 new cases reported from 18 districts of the State, 174 were detected from quarantine centres while the rest 36 are local cases.
Ganjam reported the maximum number of 58 cases followed by Khurda with 47 cases which now seems to be becoming a hotspot zone.
Coronavirus tally has touched 1088 in Ganjam district with 351 active cases while Khurda district has so far reported a total of 735 cases which include 274 active cases, 455 recoveries and four deaths.
Yesterday, Bhubaneswar reported its highest single-day spike of 22 Covid-19 cases with 16 staff of a private hospital in the capital city testing positive for SARS-CoV-2.
Similarly, Gajapati reported 29 cases, Bolangir (11), Jajpur and Puri reported eight cases each, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj reported seven cases each.
Sundargarh also reported six Covid cases, Keonjhar and Cuttack reported five cases each, Kendrapara (3), Nayagarh (3), Nabarangpur (2), Balasore (2), Deogarh, Angul and Sambalpur districts detected one case each today, as per the data shared by I & PR department.
Besides, as many as six NDRF personnel who had returned from West Bengal after carrying out rescue and restoration work following Cyclone Amphan were also tested positive with the virus.
A total of 4,188 RT-PCR tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in Odisha taking the cumulative tests to 239815.
As many as 168 persons also recuperated from COVID-19, taking the total recoveries to 4291 in Odisha today.
