Bhubaneswar: The second spell of first phase inoculation drive which began in the capital city on January 27, resumed in other parts of the State on Thursday as per the plan of action submitted by the respective districts.
Sharing details of the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive, Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi said that so far 1,78,277 healthcare workers have received the Covid-19 vaccine and this second spell will cover another batch of around 1,60,473 beneficiaries.
The second spell of the V-Drive against coronavirus would be conducted till February 10, 2021.
Odisha achieved 92 per cent immunisation coverage by Monday as 1,77,090 out of the targeted 1,92,555 healthcare workers got the first dose of the vaccine during the first spell of the inoculation drive which was conducted between January 16 and January 25.
It is being further said that the registered beneficiaries who failed to receive the jab will be called again to avail the shot in a phased manner.
"The vaccination drive in Odisha kicked off on January 16, and by Wednesday, 1,78,277 beneficiaries had received the vaccine jab. We have set a target to vaccinate all the registered health workers by February 10,” said Panigrahy.
As per official sources, the COVID-19 vaccination drive is likely to remain suspended again for three days due to pulse polio immunization drive scheduled for January 31, February 1 and 2.
According to Panigrahy, the health workers who received the first jab of COVID-19 vaccine on January 16, will get the second dose in a mega drive likely to kick off from February 14.
In India, over 25 lakh vaccine doses have been administered so far, informed Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan as per data available till 2 PM today. The number of active cases is declining. There are 1,75,000 active cases in the country as of now - a steady and declining trend is being exhibited, the official said.
