Bhubaneswar: The Commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday said the Covid-19 situation is under control and the infection rate has dipped over the last few days.
Throwing more light on the current scenario in the capital city, the Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said the active coronavirus case count stood at 3683, of which 75 per cent patients are in home isolation while the rest are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
So far, more than 10000 patients have been under home quarantine in the BMC area and 7000 of them have already recuperated from the disease until now.
"Good number of ICU and general beds are vacant in Bhubaneswar for admission of fresh cases. Still, 60 more ICU beds have been set up for treatment of Covid patients," he informed.
While the total cases have gone past 20k-mark to reach 20219, the cure rate is steadily improving in Bhubaneswar and stands at 81.66%.
During a field inspection at Unit-2 market building and other busy areas, Twin City Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi warned that police would be forced to shut shops if COVID19 guidelines are not followed properly.
On Friday, one Biswajit Manna, ward officer of ward no-45, South East Zone under BMC succumbed to COVID-19 while in the active line of duty. His cremation was done with a guard of honour at Satya Nagar crematorium in Bhubaneswar.
