Bhubaneswar: The Covid-19 cases in Odisha remained over 400 for third consecutive day on Sunday with the detection of 471 new cases and one death (29) in the last 24 hours, the highest one-day spike in the last four months.
The State had recorded 452 cases on Saturday and 461 cases on Friday. Before that, Odisha had reported 418 cases on December 1.
Of the new cases detected from 27 districts of the State, 278 were reported from quarantine centres while the rest 193 were local transmission cases, informed the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.
A maximum of 85 infections were detected in Sundargarh, followed by Kalahandi (50), Nuapada (42), Khordha (40), Bolangir (36), Sambalpur (27), Jharsuguda (23), Cuttack (22), Nabarangpur (17), Mayurbhanj (16), Balasore (15), Puri (14), Ganjam (12), Jajpur (11) and Angul (10), as per the data released by the State I & PR Department.
A 29-year-old female Covid-19 positive patient of Khordha district who was also suffering from Sickle Cell Disease with Sickling Crisis and hypothyroid disease succumbed to the virus, informed the State Health and Family Welfare Department today.
With the inclusion of Sunday’s figure, the number of coronavirus cases in the State surged to 3,42,695 of which 3,37,635 patients have been cured or recovered and 1,922 succumbed. The active cases now stand at 3,085.
The State has so far tested over 91,59,929 samples including 29,281 on Saturday, a data released by the State Health and Family Welfare department stated.
The Odisha government on Saturday decided to clamp night curfew restrictions in 10 districts which are witnessing a surge in Covid-19 cases. The night curfew will be clamped in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri which will come into effect from April 5 from 10 PM to 5 AM.
All the shops, commercial establishments, offices, institutions and movement of individuals shall remain closed/ prohibited between 10 PM and 5 AM, except for essential activities in these districts.
