Berhampur: In view of the spike in COVID-19 cases following influx of migrants, Ganjam district administration has decided to launch door-to-door health screening from tomorrow.

Ganjam district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange today informed that nearly 3 lakh families will be covered under the mega screening drive.

The drive will be conducted by various teams including Anganwadi and other health workers. One team will have four members and they will immediately report if any person is found having any symptoms of COVID-19, Kulange informed.

The concerned symptomatic person will be subsequently shifted to COVID Care Centre for necessary follow up action as per the existing guidelines.

The district administration on Sunday declared nine villages under Badapalli gram panchayat in Khallikote block as containment zones and 10 villages as buffer zones after 12 persons engaged in different Temporary Medical Camps (TMCs) tested positive for Covid-19.

The 12 staff are among the 64 Covid-19 cases detected in Ganjam district yesterday. They were engaged in different TMCs set up to lodge returnees at Badapalli panchayat.

As per reports, Ghodapada, Sialliapata, Kurlimpur, Gundripalli, Badapallu, Sanabala, Nuapalli, Chhakasing and Devijahara villages of Badapalli panchayat have been declared as containment zones.

Similarly, Mareinuagaon, Nalasingh, Khasula, Sorisaparaganjara, Badapala, B. Bhaliapadar, P.Balarampur, Kharipalli, Kiapalli and Kumarsingh villages of the panchayat have been declared as buffer zones by district Collector Vijay Amrute Kulange.

Movement of people inside the containment zones has been strictly prohibited while movement of essential services is allowed in the villages declared as buffer zones, Kulange said in a statement.

Ganjam district now tops the list having reported a highest of 598 COVID-19 positive cases so far. The number of COVID-19 active cases in the district stands at 198 and 396 recoveries and four deaths.
