Bhubaneswar: Even though Odisha continues to witness a steep rise in the novel-Coronavirus curve with each passing day, the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar director Ajay Parida is confident that after a spike, the COVID-19 crisis in the State will attain stability in August.
Speaking to media, the ILS chief said, “In terms of deaths due to SARS-nCoV, Odisha is at a better position when compared to other States. So far, no one has died at home due to the viral infection. Mostly, patients with other serious ailments have succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at the hospitals.”
“There are two categories- symptomatic and asymptomatic and most of the cases belong to the second category,” Parida informed.
Asked about increasing number of cases in the state, Parida said, “As compared to earlier trends, more tests are being conducted every day. Hence, the number of COVID-19 positive patients is increasing in the State.”
The cases in Ganjam are witnessing a downward trend. On the other hand, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) should now analyse the situation and come up with some strategies to contain the spread of the viral infection.
Notably, Odisha reported 1,384 new cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the COVID-19 tally in the State reached 37,681 on Tuesday.
Of the new cases, 889 were detected in quarantine centres, while 495 cases are local contacts.
The total recoveries stand at 23,073 while active case count is 14,350. The State health authorities conducted 14,002 new tests on Monday, taking cumulative tests to 5,70,590.
