Berhampur: Amid projection of a big spike in COVID-19 cases this month, Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange stated that the current situation is on a declining trend in the district. He, however, pointed out that August will be a challenging month in the battle against the pandemic.
“Covid-19 is on a declining trend in Ganjam district. Over the last 10 days, the testing has increased while the number of daily positive cases have declined. But still August might prove to be a challenging period in our fight against the pandemic,” said Kulange in a video message.
Besides, the intense door-to-door screening by the Rapid Response Teams (RRT) has also helped in early detection and the decline of the cases said the Collector.
Kulange further thanked the people of the district for strictly abiding by the social distancing norms and urged them to ensure proper use of masks and hand sanitizers. He also urged the people to inform the concerned authorities as soon as they develop any symptoms related to Covid-19.
“Many people are still rushing to temples, mosques and churches, and also spotted gathering near shops and markets. In such cases, police will be forced to take strict action against whosoever is found violating the guidelines,” warned the Collector.
“Shop owners should follow the five-point charter rule in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Shops are allowed to open from 5 AM to 4 PM,” said the Collector.
The Ganjam district administration also announced curfew from 4PM till 5 AM in the district and imposed complete shutdown on weekends i.e. Saturdays and Sundays this month.
The district continues to remain the worst-affected hotspot in Odisha with 12080 total positive cases so far of which 3331 are still active. While 8621 patients have recovered, Ganjam has reported 120 deaths, the maximum in the State.
