Bhubaneswar/Parlakhemundi: Gajapati district and sessions court rejected the bail plea of Maoist leader Arati Majhi in two cases here today. Arati for the second time had applied for bail last Monday following a bail rejection by the court on April 12. While eight cases are pending against Arati, she had moved for bail in five cases and the court rejected bail in two cases.

With deadline of the Maiosts to release the kidnapped Laxmipur MLA Jhina Hikaka eneded yesterday, the Andhra Orissa Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC)  clearly stated about the non-extension of  the deadline further. The Maoists however in a telephonic conversation said that they expect a decision in the Praja Court (Peoples` Court) scheduled for Thursday. Maoist leader Aruna said that they didn`t have faith on the statement of the government.

In a step to expedite the process of Jhina Hikaka`s release, the government on Wednesday  announced names of the 13 prisoners, involving five Maoists and eight members of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha, against whom it decided to withdraw cases.

In another major develpment, the Supreme Court today sought response from both the Centre and state government and allowed two weeks time on a petition seeking to restrain the release of jailed Maoists in exchange of captive MLA Jhina Hikaka.
