Rourkela: Adding a new dimension to the Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), 40 young women from 10 villages were trained in artificial jewellery making by professionals. These women are functioning as the Master Trainers in various Women Resource Centres set up by RSP in periphery villages of three revenue blocks of Bisra, Lathikata and Kuanarmunda, RSP sources said today.

Four Master Trainers identified from each of the Women Resource Centres, run by the steel plant are being trained in various modules like mushroom cultivation, improved chullah making, food processing, health and hygiene, land and water resources management, vermi-composting and similar other income generation activities.

Keeping in view the market trends these women have been trained in artificial jewellery making at the Institute for Periphery Development of RSP from October 17 to 22. It is noteworthy that, the experts from SRI, Ranchi not only taught the women the nuances of jewellery making but also provided guidance in tapping the mood of the market through innovative designs.

Through various modern catalogues and audio visual presentations the trainees were made aware about making of designer jewellery. Apart from the artificial jewellery made up of various metals, they were also trained in the making of unique and artistic jewellery from unusual materials like bamboo, different seeds and stones.

These young women are now ready to sell the regular jewellery and also make jewellery as per the orders of the customers. Besides, these Master Trainers will teach the young women of their villages the art of artificial jewellery making thereby spreading the knowledge and skill to hundreds of other budding entrepreneurs.

In the concluding function organized at the CSR Department on October 22, certificates were presented to the trainees, sources said.
