Cuttack: The city unit of the Congress party on Thursday staged a demonstration in front of the office of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) demanding the immediate cancellation of the fresh agreement the civic authority had signed with Ramky for waste collection and disposal work in Cuttack despite its dubious record.
The members of the city Congress said at the end of the contract period of Ramky as per the previous tender, the CMC has again contracted the work to the Hyderabad-based company without inviting open tenders.
They demanded cancellation of the contract signed with Ramky and threatened to intensify their stir in the coming days if an open tender is not invited for the work. The Congress members submitted a memorandum to the Additional Commissioner of the CMC in this regard.
There was a scuffle between the Congress activists, police and CMC staff when the party members tried to barge into the corporation office.
Md Mokim, president, Cuttack City Congress, said, “There is bonhomie between some anti-socials and Ramky officials and they have been looting the money of the Cuttack people for years.”
Expressing similar views, Giribala Behera, Corporator of CMC, said, “We have been demanding cancellation of the contract with Ramky because of the poor quality of work they have been doing in Cuttack.”
