Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has beefed up security arrangements in the capital city to put a check on crimes and ensure that people strictly adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines in place during Dhanteras and Diwali to be observed this Friday and Saturday, respectively.
There is a possibility of rise in incidents of loot and snatching during Dhanteras. As a precautionary measure, the department has made a list of 300 looters and snatchers and is likely to deploy additional manpower to keep a vigil on the robbers and habitual offenders.
If needed, the criminals will face 'tadipar' and booked under the National Security Act (NSA), informed Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Umashankar Dash.
Dash said patrolling would be intensified during the festive period, and for that more PCR vans will move in lanes of the city to prevent any criminal activities, he added.
As there is a ban on sale and bursting of firecrackers, the cops have been asked to remain alert to check that guidelines are strictly followed. Moreover, stress will be given to ensure that there is no huge gathering at jewellery shops on the occasion of Dhanteras.
“We urge people to remain alert to prevent any crime. More patrolling vehicles will be deployed on the day and PCR vans will be engaged to monitor the Dhanteras rush,” the DCP added.
