Bhubaneswar: People across Odisha are reeling under intense cold wave conditions with minimum temperatures dipping to almost to 3 degree Celsius in Daringbadi. Bhubaneswar also recorded a lowest minimum temperature in of 8.2 degree Celsius on Sunday.
Sources said that the minimum temperature recorded in Bhubaneswar in the month of December is lowest in the past 22 years. The city had witnessed minimum temperature of 9.1 degree Celsius in 1996.
Due to the western disturbance, Odisha will experience extreme cold wave condition till January 4, 2019, sources from the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre said.
The temperature of 14 cities stayed below eight degree Celsius. While, the minimum temperature settled at 4.5 degree Celsius in Phulbani, Angul recorded 5.6 degrees, Keonjhar (6.4), Bhawanipatna (6.5) and Titlagarh recorded 7 degree Celsius.
Twin city Cuttack recorded 8.2 degree Celsius while mercury stayed at 7.8 degrees in Balasore, 8 degrees in Sundergarh and 7.1 degree Celsius in Bolangir.
A thin layer of ice was seen on paddy fields and vehicles at places in Daringbadi and normal life was paralyzed owing to the chilling cold.
"Normal life has been affected due to the intense cold wave conditions and we are forced remain indoors, said a local of Daringbadi.
