Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested Union Health Minister JP Nadda to advise AIIMS, New Delhi authorities to continue treatment of separated conjoined twins Jaga & Kalia.

In a letter, Patnaik said that the twins have not become fit enough for home care.

"It is learnt that Department of Neurology, AIIMS, New Delhi is pressing to discharge the babies unilaterally against the views of the team of specialists from our State and despite the request of the State government to continue their treatment at AIIMS," Patnaik wrote.

“I request you to advise the concerned authorities at AIIMS, New Delhi to continue the treatment and care of Jaga and Kalia at the premier institute till the twins get fit enough for home care,” the Chief Minister wrote.

Earlier this month, parents of the separated conjoined twins had requested the State Government to get the twins shifted to a hospital in Odisha from AIIMS, New Delhi.

The two craniopagus twins from Milipada village in Kandhamal district were successfully separated after an 11-hour marathon surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi by a team of 30 specialists from neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments on October 25, 2017.

The matter had come to the fore after OTV first broadcast the news following which the State Government extended financial aid and other support for their treatment.
