Clean Hands, Save Lives: Odisha CM Naveen's Appeal To People On Global Handwashing Day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday appealed people to wash hands frequently to prevent the spread of Covid-19 on the occasion of Global Handwashing Day 2020 today.

Taking to twitter, CM Naveen said that the world is at a crucial stage in the fight against Covid-19 and gradually adapting to post-lockdown life.

At this juncture, he appealed people not to lower their guards and practice strict sanitation protocols. The CM has advised people to frequently wash hands to keep the Coronavirus at bay.

Global Handwashing Day is annually observed on October 15. As the name suggests, the day emphasizes on creating awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap and water. The day also aims to sensitize people about how hand washing is also an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives.

The theme of Global Handwashing Day this year is ‘Hand Hygiene for All’ and is primarily to urge people across society to achieve universal hand hygiene.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who will turn 74 tomorrow has decided not to celebrate his birthday in view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, informed the CM's office.

"Everyone has been facing hard times because of Coronavirus pandemic for the past eight months. The Chief Minister has therefore urged his well wishers to help poor, donate blood and plasma during the occasion. He will always be indebted to the people of Odisha for their love and good wishes," read a statement issued by the CMO today.

Last year also, Patnaik did not celebrate his birthday due to the destruction caused by Cyclone Fani in the coastal parts of Odisha including Bhubaneswar and Puri on May 3.
