Berhampur: There seems to be no end to duping by chit fund companies in Odisha. Even as such frauds continue to create headlines time and again, people still continue to fall prey to greed of high returns.
Residents in Berhampur have come out with allegations of being duped by a non-banking financial company named Datum.
As per sources, locals of Kanisi village today staged a protest in front of the firm’s branch office and demanded immediate arrest of the owner of the company. They also broke open the office.
Depositors allege that the company had been operating in the area since 2008 and had allegedly taken crores of rupees from the people on pretext of high returns.
The company suddenly downed its shutters and ceased its branch operation a year back. Meanwhile, the company officials could not be contacted.
An FIR has been lodged and investigation will begin soon, informed the police.
