Central Team Reviews Infra For Second AIIMS In Sundergarh
Sundergarh: A central team on Saturday reviewed the infrastructures at the NTPC medical college and hospital in Sundergarh for setting up the State’s second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
A five-member central team led by Delhi AIIMS Superintendent BK Sharma inspected whether the existing infrastructures of the MCH developed by NTPC is adequate to set up the AIIMS there. The Odisha government had recently proposed the Centre to use the existing infrastructure at the MCH for setting up the second AIIMS.
The team held an extensive discussion with the district collector on the required institutional infrastructure of the medical college and what needs to be developed to house the premier institute.
The team was accompanied by a four-member team from Directorate of Medical Education and Training, Bhubaneswar headed by its director CBK Mohanty.
According to sources, the central team will now submit a report to the Centre regarding their inspection following which a final decision will be taken in this regard.
“The central and state team conducted technical inspection of the hospital. The final decision on the feasibility of setting up the AIIMS will be taken by the State govt and Centre,” MP Jual Oram said.
Recently, Odisha Health Minister Naba Kishore Das had proposed to the Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to set up the second AIIMS in Sundergarh.
Das suggested that the existing infrastructures of a medical college and hospital at Sundergarh can be used for the establishment of the second AIIMS.
“The project work has already completed and currently procurement of medical equipment is going on. The medical college and hospital has facilities for treatment of 500 patients and intake capacity of 100 MBBS students per year,” Das wrote in the letter on March 30.
“This infrastructure may be used for setting up the second AIIMS. It will help the residents of Western Odisha get modern healthcare facilities in their own region,” Das had said in the letter.
