Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure safety and security of students in the SC/ST hostels especially the girl students, Odisha government today decided to install Closed-circuit televisions (CCTVs) in all the SC/ST hostels across the State very soon.
Speaking on the development, Odisha SC & ST development minister Ramesh Majhi informed that the installation of cameras has been prioritised for the safety of girl students as well as to keep round-the-clock supervision.
Stating that there are 7000 SC/ST hostels in Odisha, Majhi revealed that the cameras would be installed in phases. "There are a total of 7000 hostels under our department. On a priority basis, CCTVs will be first set up in 1000 SC/ST ladies hostels this year and the rest would be done in the later phases."
While the State Police Housing and Welfare Corporation has been assigned the responsibility, Majhi stated that the tender floating process for the same would begin in a few days.
