Kalahandi: A day after the decomposed body of General Manager of Upper Indravati Hydro Electric Project (UIHEP), Narayan Prasad Meher was recovered, locals of Dharmagarh on Monday staged demonstration in front of Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC).

Alleging that Meher has been ‘murdered’, irate locals staged demonstration to press for a probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The locals also demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the murder.

Meher, who was working at UIHEP under Odisha Hydro Power Corporation (OHPC) Ltd at Mukhiguda in Kalahandi district, was missing since December 17. Later, his decomposed body was found near a mobile phone tower in Mukhiguda area yesterday.

The family members of the deceased alleged that they had lodged a missing complaint but no action was taken by the police in this regard.

However, Kalahandi SP B. Gangadhar stated that a missing complaint was filed on December 18. Though efforts were undertaken to collect technical inputs, it did not prove beneficial.

“Some locals spotted the body and informed police. We have conducted a post mortem today and further investigation is on,” said Gangadhar.

Gangadhar further said it is too premature to say about the exact reason behind Meher’s death. Though the family members are alleging that Meher has been murdered, a detailed investigation will be carried out, he added.
