Bhubaneswar: Animal lovers were left distraught following reports of the death of a cat after sustaining bullet injuries in Unit-4 area of the Capital city on Wednesday.

As per reports, the cat was spotted in a critical condition in a pool of blood and soon locals rushed the feline to the vet college in OUAT. However, the cat was declared brought dead by the doctors.

"We heard a loud sound and rushed to the spot only to find the cat writhing in pain," said one of the locals who spotted the cat.

Animal welfare organisation, People for Animals has lodged a complaint at the Kharavela Nagar Police Station in connection with the incident.

"A case will be registered against the accused under Arms Act and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)," said Amulya Nayak, secretary of People for Animals, Odisha.

Later in the day, Kharavela Nagar Police arrested a college student in connection with the incident.
