Cash worth Rs 5 lakh seized in Ganjam; 5 detained

Berhampur: With polls round the corner, increased instances of cash seizures are raising concerns over illegal use of money in the elections. Around Rs 5.36 lakh was seized from a car at Punjikayan Chhak in Ganjam district today.

Suspecting something odd, Block Returning Officer, Executive Magistrate and Digapahandi Police detained a vehicle during a raid. Cash amounting to Rs 5,36,000 was recovered from the car, informed sources.

Sources said police have detained BJP's Gajapati district in-charge   Pabitra Das and his four associates, who were in the car, after they failed to give satisfactory answers regarding the source of the money. All of them were heading towards Mohana in Gajapati district, added sources.
