Jajpur: A business man was shot dead and Rs 3 lakh looted from him by unidentified criminals near Ochinda village in Jajpur district late last night, police said. Bijay Ranjan Padhy, a businessman was returning home along with his brother on his motorcycle after closing his business establishment at Panikoili bazaar at about 11 am last night when the incident took place.

Three motorcycle borne unidentified miscreants followed and intercepted him near Ochinda village on Panikoili-Ragadi road, the police said. "As Bijay refused to hand them over the bag containing money, he was shot at. The miscreants decamped with the bag after opening fire," police said. Seriously injured Bijay was first rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where doctors declared him brought dead.

"Bijay was shot by unidentified miscreants on his way to home around 11am last night. He received two bullets on his chest and thigh. He was rushed to SCB medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he was declared brought dead," said Deepak Kumar, Superintendent of Police of Jajpur. The police conducted raids at many places to nab the culprits, he said.
